To lose one's Eggs and Basket, Then re-find a sense of meaning.

A rare moment has occurred, I'm speechless.  I'm one of those people that forgets the old adage "Don't Keep All Your Eggs in One Basket."  So, I used to keep all of my knitting equipment (needles, gauges, hooks, clips, pins, yarn, blah blah blah) in one bag.  It wasn't until I briefly lived in Forest Lawn and had my car broken into, and my knitting bag (of all things) stolen, that I realized this wasn't such a good idea.

What hurt most though was the fact that in this bag was a project I had been working on for my new nephew.  A project I had been working on for over a year, because I'm a slow knitter, and one of my favourite baby pattern books.  Needless to say I was very, very upset.

Yet a wonderful thing happened.  I posted about it on Facebook and, spearheaded by a dear friend, members of the local knitting community rallied round and put together a package for me.  Not a small package either.  It replaces my stolen equipment, lots of baby patterns, has some beautiful hand-spun, hand-dyed, merino yarn and other assorted yarns and scrap work for me to play around with.

I'm completely flabberghasted.  These last few months, losing my fiancé, losing my job and home, a thankfully failed suicide attempt... well, it's left me rather empty inside and devoid of meaning.  But this act, well, it reminds me that there are those that care for me, that I have meaning to the people in my life. 

I haven't cried tears of joy in a while, but today I did.  It felt amazing.  I'm truly, truly blessed to have the friends I do.  I feel there is no way I can thank these friends and strangers adequately, but either way, thank you.  Your gifts have not only helped me get back on my crafting feet, but helped me realize things I had forgotten.

Happy 2010 Everyone!  Sorry for not posting recently, it's been a very busy couple of months.

So, I've grown up.  I'm no longer WelshBoi82, I'm no longer a Boi.  I'm a Man.  *Flex*.  Thus, henceforth I will be known as WelshManInExile or WelshMan82 depending on my mood :)
